Who orchestrated the Conspiracy Theory of Iraq being involved in the attack on 9/11?

I didn't even read the whole question before answering. Woops.

My vote goes to the Bush Admin (and perhaps even the Bush family), and since 1) we were being fed a littany of further terror threats, 2) the public has little knowledge of the Middle East in general, and 3) we were recently at war with Iraq, it didn't surprise me that a lot of people bought right into it.

He set up his own intelligence team to give him alternative intelligence to the CIA when he got answers he didn't like. He also created an echo chamber of calling newspapers such as the New York Times, telling them some rumor and then getting some staff member on the Sunday talk shows to repeat the rumor, using the same newspapers as a source. When Joe Wilson tried to invalidate part of his propaganda campaign, he outed his wife with help of his assistant Scooter Libby who eventually became the fall guy for him.

I think it's still believed today partly because of a cognitive dissonance that's going on. Nobody wants to admit that they fell for a lie and they could have been duped. The longer they believe the lie, the harder it is to let go and admit they have been made fools of. It's better to cling to the idea and look for any even slightest hints of support of validate the idea and show that you are not stupid.

The other option of course is to deny that anyone made such a claim or that any claim was actually believed by anyone.

No one, I have never heard anyone in the administration claim Iraq had anything to do with 9-11. Only liberals make such a claim.
Nokia, I read the report all it said was that it would take a pearl harbor type event to unite the Country. Nowhere did it say that such an event was desired and it didn't say that they were planning or involved in the plan's excution.

People were scared, Bush wanted to attack iraq (his father did) so he IMPLIED to everybody that iraq was involved… JUST TO ATTACK IT. people were scared and greiving so they blindly believed Bush.

I think the reason why the theory was accpeted as true had to do with the post nine eleven political climate. No one wanted to look weak on defense and even politicians were still shocked by the images, afterall they are also only just human, some may have been genuinly afraid and have an better be safe than sorry attitude, some signs suggest the English former prime minister Blair falls into that category.

That's no excuse however. There were voices even in America who told the truth, if they could know any politicdian could have known and despite the difficult time they should have known as well. That's their responsibility and what they get payed for

The conspiracy theory is a figment of the imagination of the liberal left. For over ten years, Saddam violated the UN resolutions, bragged about having weapons of mass destruction and gave America the one finger salute. He got what was coming to him.
The theory was pushed by the left to be presented as another lie by the Bush administration, they just make it up as they go along as a way to spread more hatred for Bush.
If they make up a lie long enough, they eventually believe it themselves.

Other than monetary assitance and sanctuary to the terrorists, there was never any "Conspiricy Theory" of Iraq being involved in 9/11. But, Saddam could and did orate about the 'heroes' and the sad ending of that day. Wherever you bunch of festered boils are located, you would do well to remember that Americans wont forget 9/11 and we will win the war on terror. You can't draw country boundaries when chasing these pieces of fecal matter. Like George said——-you're either for us or against us and if you're against us, too bad for you (my words). Conspiracy Theories spring up like weeds. Anytime the truth is unacceptable, people come up with conspiracy theories to rationalize away the facts.

9/11 was Bush, 9/11 was Chenye, 9/11 was just the guy who owned the WTC saving on a demolitions bill, 9/11 was the MOSAD, 9/11 was Iraq - anything except the thruth.
