There is good literature on explaining Hegel’s philosophy, Michael Allen Fox’s “The Accessible Hegel” is the best book I know of. Also the myths about Hegel’s philosophy (such as those perpetuated by this video) are dispelled in the book “Hegel Myths and Legends” by Jon Stewart. Most people who attack Hegel either never read him, read him and didnt understand him or read him and misunderstood him.

This video demonstrates a superficial (thus poor) understanding of Hegel’s philosophy. Amongst other things I will point out a few, yet important inaccuracies. Hegel’s dialectics, first of all, never used the formulation “thesis-anithesis-synthesis” (or as you called synthesis “resolution”) and in fact he denounced such ways of thinking. Second, Hegel never said that the state was “Gods march on Earth”, please refer to hegel[dDOT]net/en/faq.htm#1.6

If the majority of “Voters” are good and reasonable people how is it they’re unable to effect the changes in government they desire?
The 2 party system slit’s this majority and then both sides are “Played Off” against each other!
In the end the majority gets little or nothing while those few pulling the strings seem to “Cash in”

You say there can never be permanent day or permanent night, only the permanent transition. This is precisely what Hegel means when he unifies two dichotomous concepts into a higher third. I suggest you focus on the meaning of his term “sublation” (”Aufhebung” in German) and try to understand how a dialectic unity PRESERVES the negative as well as OVERCOMES it.

i agree with a more taoist approach to polarity. polarities can never be fully reconciled or it would mean the destruction of the universe. there can never be permanent day, permanent night, nor a permaenent dusk or dawn, but only a permanent transition between these two polarities. life is dependant on conflict and danger as much as harmony and safety. the dance between freedom and enslavement is just another dance that will never be concluded until the end of the world.

infact, these so called hinderences to progress are what make progress possible. without negativity there would be no conception of positivity and therefore no utilization of it. furthermore what human beings consider to be negative such as violence or greed, is essential in strengthening our race by eliminating those who are weak and cowardly. the elite are as essential to society as those who hate them. life is a dance between two polarities like rich and poor, which can never be reconciled.

i agree with hegels concept of polarities but i disagree with his notion that somehow a synthesis of those polarities will lead to progress. our human notion of progress is alien to our universe. this is because progress itself is a thesis and regress is it’s antithesis. the thesis cannot exist without the antithesis and therefore human beings can never fully escape regression, there will always be hinderences to society such as poverty, crime and tyranny. “good” cannot exist without “evil”.
