Well, if you are looking at the world in terms of chaos and order, then it is natural to have disorder in the world. Human intellect mistakenly assumes that we can bring order to the world (which we can, but only briefly). Chaos and Order = Disorder

For me, conspiracy theories never hold up because of the Janitor factor. In all those X-file style dramas, these huge conspiracies require huge infrastructures, big gleaming stainless steel rooms with huge file drawers and all kinds of telecommunication equipment. Someone has to keep it all clean. It ain't going to be Sculley or Mulder or the man with the cigarette. And if someone is being paid minimum wage, they'll sell their story to the tabloids so fast it'll make your conspiracy addled head swim.

No, the crazy World is explained very well by the idea the powerful people look after their own self interest. Those powerful people's interests are not going to be the same and there will be conflict. Senators pay back the corporations that paid for their campaigns so that they will pay for the next one. Groups of them form parties so that they can push legislation that will benefit their families and benefactors. Leaders take their countries to war either to conquer of eliminate perceived threats to their way of life. Conspiracies are more complicated than plain old self interest.

If the only theory that allows one to understand what is happening just happens to look to many to be a crazy conspiracy theory, then it may require what will be seen as a crazy conspiracy theory.

Often, however, a crazy conspiracy theory may be crazy because it has to assume a lot of facts not in evidence, because the assumptions necessary depend on a large number of people doing things which, if they were known would have had negative results for those people.

If on further examination we find that a lot of those facts become part of evidence, we still have to be cautious… we are fitting 'evidence' into a theory rather than building a theory from evidence. This does not mean we can discard it, but it involves a need for a higher standard of proof.

However, most criminal prosecutions start from a theory of what happened, and build into it facts that support that conclusion.

We have to be open to the crazy theory if it is the only theory that works.
