What are some good conspiracy theories for the mystery of Atlantis?

The only mystery about Atlantis is why anyone would believe what some charlatans have said about it with no basis. Plato first mentioned it in 3 dialogues. His prize pupil Aristotle testified that Plato just invented Atlantis as he did his ideal Republic to teach lessons. The first mention of it has Solon hearing the story from Egyptian priests, but there is nothing in Egyptian literature about any such thing. Case closed!

Gobbldygook = atlantis was actually a giant alien ship. It didn't sink into the ocean it merely left earth after ascertaining there was no intelligent life at a reasonable state of development and we were too frail for slaves in their environement.

They became arrogant and god struck them down because of their blasphemies.

Mistranslation, it was actually Ireland and if you go back too far timewise ireland was slightly more advanced than mainland europe for a brief period (pre-roman)

sometimes the stories have survivors going to random places and starting anew. Thus the pyramids in egypt and yucatan.

I advise reading the book "Illuminatus" or whatever (not sure of exact title). It's got a picture of a dolphin in front of a pyramid (paperback version). The whole book is satire on conspiracy theories and the author goes to town on atlantis towards the end. may or may not help but will be amusing.

There is a theory that the origin of civilization lies at the bottom of the ocean, that there was once a great kingdom named Atlantis, home to the advanced and sophisticated society. In Atlantis these fire-crystals would have been erected in a series of three, thus creating a vortex of astronomical energy and a power of the first magnitude!

From time to time, the force field emitted by these damaged Atlantean fire-crystals becomes very powerful and any plane or ship coming within the influence of this force field disintegrates and is transformed into pure energy. Hence the inexplicable and mysterious disappearances that has very often been blamed on the area of the ocean known as the Bermuda Triangle!

The conspiracy is how people can write so many books about it and create so many theories based on just 3 odd pages.

For that matter, out of all the hundreds of ancient Greek writers and historians, why is Plato the only one who mentions it. Well, except for Diodorus Siculus and his strange story about Atlantean Titans and an Amazon-Atlantean war.
