Probably one of the biggest is that there exists an Immuninati, a group of elites that are secretly controlling major events in human society. According to the theory, they've been around for centuries and have caused various events such as the French and Russian Revolutions. (It's their way of keeping governments in check.) They also interfere the workings of governments through infiltration, assassination, and blackmail. Their reach extends into the world's banking systems, from where they exert a powerful influence into the financial world.

The Illuminati started in Bavaria (in what is now southern Germany), but has chapters in many parts of the world. One of the American chapters, the Skull and Bones society, includes both Presidents Bush and Senator John Kerry.

Writers have written much about the Illuminati, and have noted their connections with Freemasonry. Given their long history, this isn't a flash-in-the-pan conspiracy theory, but one that either has some level of validity or simply a profound effect on society.
